Shyamnagar Pirtala Road Natyabaitan believes in the mantra that ‘Guru is everything for any successful venture’. To give due respect to the Director of the institution, who has huge experience in the field of theatre and working for last 30 years with high reputation and lots of awards in his bag, Shyamnagar Pirtala Road Natyabitan organized the festival named ‘Srijone Suvendu’, on 01st and 02nd June 2019, with the motive to honour Shri Suvendu Majumdar, Director of this institution. The festival was of two days duration with six plays directed by him and four out of these are written by him. The viewers got an opportunity to see him acting in two plays. One of these was first staged in the year 1991 by ‘Ichhapore Aleya’, his parent theatre institution. Shyamnagar Pirtala Road Natyabitan presented two plays ‘Banhiman’ and ‘Insaniyat’, two most successful productions of this time.

A documentary on his works and his life also featured in the opening of the festival. Eminent theater personalities shared their experience working with him, in the said documentary. A special edition of ‘Natyabitan Natyakatha’, was also published on the occasion, in which 30 theatre workers have written about various sides of this renowned actor-director of the present era.

The two days festival received huge praise from the theatre lovers of this industrial belt of the district. The comments book was full of demanding many more such festival.

By honouring our director Shri Suvendu Majumdar, we actually honoured ourselves and looking forward to the other theatre teams to organize such festival to honour the eminent theatre personalities, which actually will enrich the theatre fraternity.
